India's Tata Closer to Sale of Tower Stake

India's Tata Teleservices is again reported to be in talks with Quippo Telecom Infrastructure (QTIL) to merge their respective tower operations. Last month, we reported QTIL had confirmed to journalists that it is in talks with Tata Teleservices to take a large stake in the company's tower business. The Economic Times newspaper now says that QTIL has emerged as the top bidder for a 49% stake in TTSLĂ's tower business.  more

Pantech Signs Indian CDMA Handset Contract

South Korea's Pantech has signed a direct supplier agreement with India's Tata Teleservices (TTSL) to provide 300,000 CDMA handsets in India, starting with the compact, slim PA-711 phone, which will be sold under the Pantech brand. Pantech says that it aims to secure more than 10% of the Indian CDMA market next year by forging strategic alliances with other mobile service operators. The company also plans to unveil GSM and 3G handsets in India next year. more
