India's CDMA growth exceeds GSM for first time since October
In June 2007 the number of CDMA mobile customers in India grew faster than the number of GSM customers for the first time since October 2006. The CDMA customer base enjoyed a 4.9% increase in the month, the highest growth rate for nine months, whilst the GSM base recorded an average-looking 4.1% - although this was an improvement on 3.4% in April and 4.0% in May. more

India Subscriber Growth Outstrips China in Q3
For the first time ever quarterly net additions in India exceeded those in China in Q3 2006, even though the Chinese figure itself reached a record high in the period. A total of 17.065m new customers adopted mobile services in India in the three months to 30th September compared to 16.807m in China. Total customer numbers in India reached almost 123m by the end of Q3 2006, and penetration climbed 1.5 percentage points in the quarter to 11.2%. more

India medium businesses spent US$596 million on telecommunications
In 2004, more than 20,500 medium businesses in India invested almost US$596 million in various kinds of telecommunication-related technologies. This overall spending is dominated by local, long distance and cellular services that comprise a mammoth 73%. However, the overall telecom expenditure is likely to drop marginally in 2005 due to a rapid price decrease in various fixed-line telecom services like local and long-distance telephony as well as falling cellular tariffs. Overall spending on IP-based technologies like IP phones, IP PBX and IP Centrex display a high anticipated rate of escalation within the next few years. more

Motorola winning Indian contracts
Motorola has announced business wins of wireless equipment agreements worth over US$307 million from leading Indian operators BSNL, MTNL, and Tata Teleservices. These agreements include deployment of new networks, as well as expansion and up-grades of existing networks for both GSM communications and CDMA systems. Of the US$307 million in announced wins, substantially all of the orders were reported in 2003 and the majority of the revenue is expected to be recognized in 2004. more
