T-Mobile Nearing Completion of Huawei Switchover

­t-mobile says that the modernization of its Czech Republic GSM network will be entering its second, final stage this month. Within the project, which began in October 2008, all of the 4,540 base transceiver stations (BTS) are being gradually replaced with Huawei equipment to offer nationwide EDGE coverage.  more

ZTE Aims to be a Top-5 Phone Manufacturer This Year

China's ZTE is close to breaking into the top-5 of global handset manufacturers after it saw handset shipments jump by 40% in 2008 to reach 45 million units, according to the Taiwan based DigiTimes publication. The company had set itself a target of gaining a top-5 placement by 2011, but did accept that shrinking market share in competitors could bring that date forward.  more

t-mobile USA has added to its 3G device portfolio a HSDPA capable USB Laptop Stick manufactured by Huawei, which also offers Wi-Fi connectivity. Accommodating up to 8 GB of installable memory, the webConnect laptop stick also provides portable storage, eliminating the need for an additional USB memory stick.  more

Voice over LTE Initiative Launched

A group of leaders in the wireless industry comprised of Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, Kineto Wireless, LG Electronics, Motorola, Nortel, Samsung, Starent Networks, t-mobile and ZTE have announced a joint effort, referred to as the Voice over LTE via Generic Access (VoLGA) Forum. The joint effort aims to define a set of specifications within the forum for enabling delivery of voice services over LTE access networks based on the current 3GPP Generic Access Network (GAN) standard.  more
