T-Mobile USA Expands 3G Coverage to 13 Cities

T-Mobile USA has announced the expansion of its 3G coverage to 13 major markets and the signing of a raft of new backhaul agreements to cope with the increased traffic across its network. FCC's T-Mobile Test Shows Movement on Spectrum Sale

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The Federal Communications Commission next week will take a step toward auctioning off a new block of channels and requiring the winning bidders to offer free Internet. FCC engineers, at the behest of T-Mobile USA, will fly out to the company's lab near Seattle to test whether wireless Internet uploads on those airwaves will interfere with T-Mobile's connections.  more

It has been reported that T-Mobile USA is prepping for a near nationwide 3G launch at the beginning of October. At the moment, the company offers 3G services in the New York area only and has previously said that it expects 3G coverage to be available in the top 20 to 25 markets by the end of this year. Various reports suggest that the company will switch on some 27 markets on the 1st October.  more

Linksys Launches UMA Capable Wi-Fi Router

Cisco subsidiary, Linksys has launched a new domestic router product which supports cellular UMA services. At its core, the WRTU54G is a standard Linksys Wireless-G broadband router, but it adds two phone jacks, two internal SIM card slots for multiple phone lines and UMA client software. T-Mobile USA is using the WRTU54G for its T-Mobile @Home service, currently being tested in the Seattle and Dallas markets.  more

T-Mobile Testing Wi-Fi / Cellular Hand-Over

T-Mobile USA is reported to be planning a national launch of a service which would enable customers to hop onto T-Mobile Wi-Fi hotspots when in range. Today's issue of the Wall Street Journal reports that the service, known as Hotspot at Home, has been in trial in Seattle for a few months and the carrier is ready to roll it out nationwide as early as mid-June, people familiar with the matter told the newspaper. more
