Electricity Meters to Transmit Usage Data over T-Mobile Network
Echelon Corp. and T-Mobile USA have announced an alliance to accelerate the adoption of the smart grid in the North American market by reducing the communications cost of smart meters through the deployment of Echelon's Networked Energy Services (NES) system over T-Mobile's GSM network. As part of the agreement, Echelon will utilize an embedded T-Mobile SIM within a cellular radio module to enable all the Echelon smart meters on a given low voltage transformer to communicate back to the utility over the smart grid, and T-Mobile will offer users of Echelon's NES system and pricing plans for data usage. more

Deutsche Telekom Issues Profits Warning - May Write Down T-Mobile Value
Deutsche Telekom has issued a profits warning, and now expects adjusted EBITDA in 2009 to be 2 to 4 percent below last year. The company is now expecting to post EBITDA in the range of EUR18.7 billion - EUR19.1 billionn (US$24.7 billionn) after an initial forecast of EUR19.5 billion. more

US Operators Sign-Up to Mobile Marketing Agreement
The USA's four largest mobile network operators, Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile USA have all signed up to abide by marketing guidelines from the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA). In addition to the four largest US wireless service providers, there was substantial help in securing this agreement from the major aggregators, brands and content owners.
