Nokia Adding Support for Microsoft Software to its Smartphones

Nokia has joined forces with Microsoft to port Microsoft Office Mobile and Microsoft business communications, collaboration and device management software to Nokia's symbian based smartphones. Starting from next year, Nokia intends to start shipping Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile on its smartphones, followed by other Office applications and related software and services in the future.  more

Nokia Sells its Symbian Services Unit

Nokia has announced that it is to sell its symbian Professional Services unit responsible for symbian OS customer engineering and customer support to consulting firm, Accenture. The unit provides engineering consulting and product development services on a global basis to mobile phone manufacturers, as well as chip manufacturers and mobile operators.  more

Nokia's CEO Outlines Vision for the Future

Today at its Annual General Meeting, Nokia President and CEO, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo outlined the company's future strategy. "Nokia is fundamentally changing its business model to transform both the company and the industry. While we continue to compete with the traditional mobile device manufacturers, we also are dealing with new competitors entering the market from the PC and Internet industries," he said.  more

Smartphone sales buck the recession

A report by Infonetics Research is forecasting an 8% drop in the total number of mobile phones sold in 2009, to 1.1 billion worldwide (down from 1.2 billion in 2008), in line with predictions from Nokia, among others. Smartphones were the best-performing segment of the mobile phones market in 2008 and the only segment to show unit and revenue growth in the second half of the year as the world economy entered recession.  more
