The symbian Foundation has announced the launch of symbian Horizon, an app store for symbian developers. Users can now sign up for the program to have their applications listed in the symbian Horizon Directory, processed through symbian Signed, and published to a growing list of application store partners. more

Nokia to Launch TD-SCDMA Based Phones by End 2009
Nokia has reaffirmed its commitment to China's 3G standard, TD-SCDMA at the Mobile Asia Congress in Macau. Mr. Colin Giles, President of Nokia China, said at the event: "Nokia firmly supports the development of TD-SCDMA. Our goal is to not only develop TD-SCDMA products that can deliver outstanding user experiences to consumers, but also to work with operators, chipset providers, developers and all parties along the value chain to support the creation of a vibrant TD-SCDMA ecosystem in China." more

Smart Mobile Device Shipments Jump 53% to 118 Million in 2007
The latest market data from analyst firm Canalys shows how much the converged device market (all smart phones and wireless handhelds) has grown over the past year. These, typically high-end, devices represented around 10% of the global mobile phone market by units in 2007, with annual growth of 60% making them one of the fastest growing segments of the technology industry. Year-on-year growth climbed every quarter throughout 2007, to reach a peak of 72% in Q4. more
