China Mobile Signs Cooperation Agreement with the Symbian Foundation

­China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC), the state owned parent company to China Mobile has announced that it is to collaborate with the symbian Foundation on a series of initiatives to improve the mobile ecosystem in China and to stimulate the development of the market for the home-developed TD-SCDMA standard. The partnership also marks symbian's Chinese website launch, broader focus on the Chinese market and China Mobile's determination to support the symbian Foundation.  more

Nokia and Motorola Dominate Chinese Smartphone Market

A report from China's CCID Consulting has found that the sales volume of China's smart phone market in 2008Q3 reached 7.474 million units, up 0.6% over Q2 '08; the sales revenue in Q3 reached 18.17 billion Yuan, up 4.5% over 2008Q2. Smart phones' sales volume in 2008Q3 accounted for 19.3% of the total mobile phone sales volume, up 0.7% over 2008Q2.  more

Nokia to Launch TD-SCDMA Based Phones by End 2009

Nokia has reaffirmed its commitment to China's 3G standard, TD-SCDMA at the Mobile Asia Congress in Macau. Mr. Colin Giles, President of Nokia China, said at the event: "Nokia firmly supports the development of TD-SCDMA. Our goal is to not only develop TD-SCDMA products that can deliver outstanding user experiences to consumers, but also to work with operators, chipset providers, developers and all parties along the value chain to support the creation of a vibrant TD-SCDMA ecosystem in China."  more

Open Source OS Assists Chinese Development of the Smart Phone Market

A report from Chinese research firm, CCID Consulting shows that the sales volume of smart phones in China's market in the first half of 2008 reached 15.671 million sets, up 32.1% over H1 2007, and the sales revenue reached 37.74 billion Yuan, up 25.7% over H1 2007.  more
