Swisscom Mobile Improves Performance with Radio Propagation Predictions
Radio propagation prediction vendor, Wavecall says that swisscom Mobile has successfully applied its WaveSight application to improve performance of its UMTS network and HSDPA throughput. WaveSight has been successfully employed with an automatic cellular tool to improve the performance of existing swisscom Mobile 3G sites within the city of Basel, Switzerland, to enhance coverage and service. The measured results showed an improvement in quality and coverage area by as much as eight percent (8%) which can be translated into a reduced, or delayed, requirement for additional sites whilst increases the 3G traffic per user. more

Swisscom Connects 5 Millionth Mobile Subscriber
swisscom has announced that it has just connected its 5 millionth mobile subscriber. The company said that this means that around two thirds of the Swiss population are making their mobile calls on the swisscom mobile network. The first mobile network in Switzerland, branded as NATEL went into operation 30 years ago. more

Swisscom Expanding HSPA Coverage - Increasing Download Speeds
Over the coming months, swisscom says that it will massively expand its mobile data network, in a series of stages. From mid- November, swisscom customers will be able to take advantage of much higher speeds - up to 7.2 Mbps for receiving and up to 1.4 Mbps for sending data - thanks to HSPA. In a second stage, the HSPA network will be expanded to provide coverage to 70 per cent of Switzerland's population by the end of the year. Stage three will see HSPA becoming available on the entire UMTS network from mid-2008, extending coverage to 90 per cent of the population. more
