3G Operator, Hi3G Granted 900Mhz Spectrum in Sweden
The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) has made the decision to approve an application from the operators TeliaSonera, Swefour, Tele2, Telenor and Hi3G for frequencies in the 900 MHz band. The present licences in the 900 MHz band will be renewed and it will be possible for the operators to phase in new technology for mobile broadband while at the same time continuing to offer GSM mobile telephony. more

Sweden Proposes Allocating 900Mhz Spectrum to 3G Operator
Sweden's telecoms regulator, the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) has decided to distribute a proposed decision concerning the GSM900 band for consultation. The proposal involves the renewal of existing licences in the 900 MHz band, but also that the entire frequency space available in the 900 MHz band should be allocated, which would enable 3G operator, Hi3G to gain access to frequency space in the 900 MHz band. In addition, it would be possible for operators to progress to new technology and supply wireless broadband to a greater extent. more

Orange asks for Swedish 3G delay
Orange Sverige in Sweden has applied to the local telecoms regulator, the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency to delay its 3G network launch by 3.5 years. It also asked to have its roll-out obligations lowered, reducing coverage to 8.3 million people (93% population) instead of the 8.86 million (98% population) originally planned. The drop in population coverage is in numbers quite small, but due to the population distribution being very concentrated in Sweden - the landmass that no longer needs to be covered is quite substantial, and would lead to fairly large capex savings. more
