Swiss Networks May Cooperate on LTE Network Upgrades

Switzerland to Permit 3G at 900Mhz - Extends Licenses

Switzerland's telecoms regulator, ComCom has renewed the GSM mobile telephony licences of Orange, sunrise and Swisscom until the end of 2013. All the countries GSM licences, which were provisionally extended in April 2008, will now all expire at the same time (Swisscom, sunrise, Orange and In&Phone). This gives ComCom an opportunity to implement a comprehensive reallocation of all the mobile telephony frequencies which are free today or which will become free in 2013 or 2016.  more

Switzerland's Sunrise Extends Amdocs Contract to 2015

Amdocs says that it has signed a new multi-year services agreement to maintain the Amdocs operational support systems (OSS) installation at Switzerland based sunrise Communications. The agreement was signed with Alcatel-Lucent, which manages the network on behalf of sunrise.  more

Alcatel-Lucent Picks Up Swiss Network Management Contract

Switzerland's sunrise Communications has agreed to outsource the operation of its mobile, fixed and data networks to Alcatel-Lucent as of August 1, 2008. The contract includes the transfer of 290 employees, and is valued at approximately EUR340 million (US$530 million) over 7 years, depending on the final scope of the project.  more

Ericsson Wins Swiss HSPA Expansion Contract

Ericsson has signed an agreement with the Swiss operator sunrise to expand its WCDMA/HSPA network in a number of cities across Switzerland. Under the three-year agreement, Ericsson will be the key supplier of radio access network equipment to expand the existing WCDMA/HSPA network of sunrise.  more

Swiss Regulator Provisionally Extends GSM Licenses

Switzerland's Federal Communications Commission (ComCom) has provisionally extended the GSM mobile telephony licences of Orange, sunrise and Swisscom, which expire at the end of May 2008, until 31 December 2013 at the latest. This is intended to bridge the delays in the renewal of the three expiring GSM licences which have arisen as a result of appeals procedures.  more

Carphone Warehouse Sells Swiss Phone Retail Outlets

Carphone Warehouse (CPW) has withdrawn from the Swiss mobile market and announced a decision to sell its entire Swiss operations to dominant operator, Swisscom for an undisclosed amount. Swisscom will add the 62 shops from Carphone Warehouse's Phone House Switzerland unit to its existing network of 110 stores.  more
