More Job Cuts at Sprint Nextel Expected Next Year
US operator, Sprint Nextel is expected to announce a large round of job cuts in the new year as the company tries to turn itself around. Pali Research analyst Walter Piecyk wrote on his blog that the company would post a charge to its finances in Q1 to cover the cost of the redundancies, but will boost the long term profitability of the firm. more

Virgin Mobile USA and UK Q2 2008 Results
The Virgin Group's two largest mobile businesses reported their second quarter results this week, which showed a drop in customer numbers on both sides of the pond. In the United Kingdom, Virgin Mobile lost 3.0% of its customer base in the quarter - equivalent to 134k connections - reducing its total from 4.42m to 4.29m. Meanwhile in the USA, its namesake lost 111k connections, which saw the base drop back through the 5m mark to end June at 4.99m - 2.2% down quarter on quarter. more

Which Operator will be the First to Launch Femtos in Europe?
Trials of Femto's in Europe have already started and IMS Research says that they expect that the first deployments will start in the first half of 2008. Following Sprint Nextel's limited launch for its Airave product from Samsung, announced this September, questions have been arising as to which operator will be first to launch in Europe. more

North American Wireless CAPEX Slumped by 18% in Q3
Ovum RHK has posted its analysis of third-quarter 2007 revenue and capital spending by North American network operators. The research firm says that wireline operators increased capital spending by 7 percent versus the third quarter of 2006, while mobile operator capital spending plummeted 18 percent. Revenues remained on trend, with mobile revenue growing nearly 10 percent, and fixed revenue basically flat versus last year. more
