Consumer Weakness Drives Negative Outlook for Semiconductors in 2009

Debt ratings agency, Fitch says that its 2009 Rating Outlook for the semiconductor industry is negative due to a meaningfully weaker macroeconomic environment, resulting in lower revenues for all semiconductor markets and, in particular, PCs and mobile handsets, which represent nearly 60% of global semiconductor consumption. While the overall market will be lower, Fitch expects developing economies will experience lower albeit still positive unit growth.  more

Technology: Strong Liquidity, Stable Operating Trends Mitigate Concerns in 2008

The debt ratings agency, Fitch says that it believes 2008 credit and operating trends will remain stable for most U.S. information technology (IT) sectors, except for electronic manufacturing services (EMS), which has a negative outlook. Total industry debt is expected to increase in 2008 exceeding a 10-year high again, surpassing $190 billion. The technology industry overall is expected to continue to achieve growth in excess of U.S. gross domestic product for 2008, with many companies benefiting from strong international growth amplified by the weak U.S. dollar.  more
