Recession isn't holding back mobile broadband subscribers

Market research firm Infonetics Research released the fourth quarter (4Q08) edition of its Mobile Broadband Cards, Routers, Services, and Subscribers report last week. The report found that worldwide, the number of mobile broadband subscribers (including W- CDMA/HSPA and CDMA2000/EV-DO) jumped 125% in 2008 over 2007, hitting 210.5 million, and are expected to top 1 billion by 2013.  more

Sony Ericsson Shows Off 8.1 Megapixel Cameraphone

sony Ericsson has announced the launch of an 8.1 mega-pixel cameraphone under their Walkman brand - the W995. The phone will also be the first in a range including a "Media Go" platform which the company says makes it easier to sync content between phone and computer.  more

Ericsson Q2 Profits Plunge 70%

Ericsson has reported that its second-quarter profit fell 70 percent because of costs to cut jobs and falling sales of phones made by its sony Ericsson joint venture. Net income fell to SEK1.9 billion (US$320 million) from SEK6.4 billion (US$1.07 billion) a year ago. Revenue rose 2 percent to SEK48.5 billion (US$8.1 billion) in the quarter.  more

sony Ericsson has launched its first 3G/HSDPA phone for the U.S. market - the Z750a clamshell handset. The Z750a features mobile broadband for a high-speed Internet connection and access to multimedia content that complements its multimedia player, 2.0 megapixel camera, Internet browser and e-mail capability using AT&T's Mobile Email application.  more
