Mobile Phone Shipments Rebound To Double-Digit Growth in Q4

The worldwide mobile phone market grew 11.3% in the fourth quarter of 2009, ending five consecutive quarters of retrenchment. According to IDC's Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors shipped 325.3 million units in 4Q09 compared to 292.4 million units in the fourth quarter of 2008. Vendors shipped a total of 1.13 billion units on a cumulative worldwide basis in 2009, down 5.2% from the 1.19 billion units shipped in 2008.  more

Taiwanese Feature Phone Industry Faces More Challenges Ahead

Taiwan's feature phone manufacturers have faced the end-of-life of some products manufactured for major customers Motorola, Sony Ericsson, and Nokia, while there were merely a couple of new models which began shipments in the 3rd-quarter of 2009. Shipments of Cell Phones Return to Growth in Q2

Global shipments of cell phones in the second quarter climbed 4.7 percent compared to the first, marking the first sequential increase for the market since the third quarter of 2008, according to iSuppli Corp. Smartphone Growth Encouraging - Cell Phone Market Still Expected To Shrink in 2009

The worldwide mobile phone market recorded another quarter of year-over-year decline in the second quarter of 2009 (2Q09).­ According to IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, handset vendors shipped a total of 269.6 million units worldwide, down 10.8% from 302.2 million units in 2Q08. The second quarter results are an improvement from the 17.2% decrease seen during 1Q09, but ongoing challenges stemming from the economic crisis remain a factor to watch.  more

Global Handset Shipments Fall at Fastest Rate in History during Q1 2009

Industry to Settle on a Generic Phone Charger for All Mobile Phones

The GSMA and 17 mobile operators and manufacturers have announced that they are committed to implementing a cross-industry standard for a universal charger for new mobile phones. The aim of the initiative, led by the GSMA, is to ensure that the mobile industry adopts a common format for mobile phone charger connections and energy-efficient chargers resulting in an estimated 50 per cent reduction in standby energy consumption and the potential elimination of up to 51,000 tonnes of duplicate chargers.  more

China's Handset Industry Growth Slowed in Second Half of 2008

According to statistics of the ITIS project - a project initiated by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs and conducted by Taipei-based MIC - China's mobile phone industry reached a shipment volume of 175.2 million units in the third quarter of 2008, representing 6.2% sequential growth and 4.3% year-on-year growth. The industry's growth rate, which peaked in 2006, gradually slowed down to mid-single digits. This indicated that the Chinese mobile phone industry was significantly impacted by a slowdown in global market demand.  more

Apple's iPhone Now Top Phone for Mobile Advertising Traffic

AdMob, the world's largest mobile advertising marketplace, has announced the iPhone is now the top device worldwide for mobile advertising traffic, displacing the Motorola RAZR, and in a regional feature focus highlighted traffic from Latin America and the Caribbean has more than doubled in the last year. The iPhone experienced strong traffic worldwide to become the number one device, with 37 percent of requests coming from outside of the US.  more
