The Western European mobile phone market grew 3.2% year-on-year to 58.7 million units in the fourth quarter of 2010, according to IDC's European Mobile Phone Tracker. Shipments of smartphones increased to 25.6 million units, 99.4% higher than in 4Q09, to represent 44% of total shipments. Nokia Keeps Top Spot in Taiwan Handset Market
Nokia has retained its top spot in the Taiwan mobile handset market, although Sony Ericsson took a higher share of revenues, reports the Taiwan Economic News. The report, based on data from distributors found that Nokia had a 25.8% market share of handsets shipped in July, but only 21.5% of the revenues. Sony Ericsson took 25% of the revenues, while only shipping 17.2% by volume. more
