Lower call costs possible in Sweden
Sweden's National Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) has presented a proposal concerning obligations for operators with significant market power (SMP). PTS proposes that Telia sonera, Tele2 and Vodafone shall have cost-oriented prices for calls to mobile telephones. Previously only Telia sonera had such an obligation. Cost orientation means that the price undertakings charge other operators to connect calls to their customers' mobile telephones shall be based on the undertakings' costs. This can result in lower prices for the consumer. more

Tele2 may buy Millicom's Russian investments
Millicom has confirmed rumours that it is in discussions regarding selling its Russian cellular telephony assets to Tele2. Millicom sold its cellular telephony business in Estonia to Tele2 in 1998. During these negotiations the two parties discussed the sale of Millicom's Russian assets but, at that time, decided not to proceed as Tele2 wished first to focus on building its Baltic operations. Tele2's investment in the Baltics has been very successful and now the possible expansion into Russia is a logical step, which would bring a total of 124,000 proportional subscribers. more
