Western European Mobile Phone Market now in Recession
Three consecutive quarters of negative growth have led the Western European mobile phone market into recession. According to IDC's European Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors shipped 53.6 million units in 4Q08, 13.5% lower than the 62 million units shipped in 4Q07. For the full year 2008, vendors shipped 190.5 million units in Western Europe, 5.9% lower than the 202.5 million units shipped in 2007. more

Mobile entertainment industry confident in face of economic downturn
The Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF) has launched its first quarterly Business Confidence Index (BCI) for the US$32 billion global mobile entertainment industry. It reveals that the industry is confident it will continue to grow despite the economic downturn, with MEF members predicting an average revenue growth of 27% in 2009. more

MySpace Signs Russian Mobile Deal
Russia's MTS has inked a deal with MySpace to provide direct access to the mobile internet version of MySpace from MTS's own mobile homepage. In addition, the companies are planning to launch an MTS-branded community on MySpace Russia website to drive usage and support the partnership. more
