3 UK to Scrap Top-Up Fee Requirement for Skype Users

Hutchison 3G UK (3 UK) has announced that it will offer unlimited Skype-to-Skype calls and instant messages at no charge to anyone with a 3 SIM card. Starting from next month, there will be no data charges or top-up fees for either contract or pay-as-you-go customers who use Skype on 3's UK network. Anyone with a 3 UK branded Skype-enabled handset will be able to buy a 3 SIM and talk as much as they want to other Skype users without ever having to pay another penny.  more

Emerging Markets Mobile Penetration to Rrise from 46% in 2008 to 95% by 2013

Mobile penetration rates are forecast to rise from 46% in 2008 to 95% by 2013 according to a new survey of 34 emerging market countries published by Tariff Consultancy. Already subscribers in the 34 countries total over 2.1 billion users (based on operator statistics as of mid-2008) which accounts for half of the world's mobile users (based on ITU estimates). By 2013 the 34 countries will have grown to 4.3 billion mobile users and will account for around two thirds of global mobile users  more

Chunghwa Telecom H1 Revenues Rise - but Profits Drop

Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom has reported that its first half revenues increased by 5.4% to NT$100.9 billion (US$3.2 billion), of which 28.5% was from fixed-line services, 35.9% was from mobile services, 24.6% was from Internet and data services, and the remaining 11.0% was from other revenues, including handset sales of Chunghwa and SENAO.  more
