Singapore M1 2Q07 Net Profit S$40.6 Million Vs S$36.9 Million

Almost One in Five Singapore Connections are 3G

Singapore's three mobile players have recorded fourth quarter net additions figures closer together than ever, with singtel, M1 and Starhub taking 29.6%, 39.5% and 30.9% of the new customers, respectively, between September and December. Q4 2006 saw MobileOne (M1) - now Singapore's smallest operator - record the highest number of net additions in the market, as a result of reducing overall churn to a low for the year of 1.3% per month. more

Singapore's 3G license holders meet conditions

Singapore's mobile market will get new impetus for growth in the new year in the wake of two announcements from the telecoms regulator. First, all three mobile operators have successfully met IDA's requirement for nationwide rollout of 3G systems and services. Second, IDA will allow the mobile operators the flexibility to charge different prices for calls within and outside of their own networks. more

Virgin Mobile launched in Singapore

Virgin commercially launched its MVNO joint venture with singtel in Singapore on Friday, and found that it could only receive calls from other singtel customers. Customers using MobileOne or StarHub cannot currently phone customers on the new Virgin network. MobileOne cliams that it was formally requested to provide interconnection to the new network only one week ago, and that it takes at least three weeks to arrange the interconnection. However, Virgin says that it has a letter dated August 15th that requested the interconnection to be arranged by last Thursday. StarHub says that it has now come to an agreement to transfer calls to singtel for the Virgin MVNO. Sir Richard Branson, Virgin's Chairman said "To switch someone on is a five-minute job. They think that this is going to help their battle against Virgin Mobile but it won't," adding that customers should switch networks, to his of course, as a protest." more
