Latin America's WiMAX Market to Surpass $1 Billion in Revenues During 2009-2013

Caribbean 3G Services Revenues will Surpass the US$ 3.5 Billion Mark by 2013

A new report from Signals Telecom Consulting highlights the fact that the current crisis in global financial markets, the high levels of mobile tele-density and the limited number of inhabitants living in the majority of the Caribbean markets will force regional operators to seek out new revenue sources. WiMAX to Represent Around 5% of Broadband Connections in Latin America by 2013

Signals Telecom Consulting has published a report which expects that in spite of the tremendous speed potential claimed by WiMAX, 57% of corresponding offerings fall below the 1 Mbps mark in Latin America. As of 3Q08, the maximum speed offered is 4 Mbps (Embratel - Brazil).  more

Caribbean Markets Reflect Low Level of Segmentation in Service Offerings

The new challenge faced by Caribbean operators is how to continue increasing revenues in markets having a small number of inhabitants in which voice services (fixed and mobile) have already surpassed the 100% teledensity mark. Companies will have to focus expansion efforts on value added services and service packaging. This will force operators to invest in new technologies that allow them to offer new services. Signals believes that this scenario will open the door for operators like America Movil to expand into new Caribbean markets as well as increase consolidation in the region.  more
