Mobile VoIP to Generate Revenues of over US$8 billion in Latin America by 2014

A report from Signals Telecom Consulting indicates that Brazil will continue to lead the VoIP market in Latin America, and will account for over 38% of total revenue for the region by 2014, driven by the adoption of wireless technologies, revenue from which will pass the US$1 billion mark in 2012. Mexico should reach this mark by 2013, while the Argentine market will do so in 2014.  more

Brazil Leads Lat-Am in Deployments, Connections and Demand for WiMAX and 3G Services

Signals Telecom Consulting has issued a commentary which notes that as from 2010 Brazil will account for the greatest number of WiMAX accesses in the Latin America and the Caribbean region, a position that it will keep in the medium term. Signals expects that the setting of regulations for the use of the 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands, plus the tendering of new bands, will provide a strong impulse to this technology in Brazil. Signals foresees the entry into the market of large-scale operators such as Telefónica (via TVA), which will use WiMAX to expand its area of operation outside Sao Paulo, and SKY (DirecTV), among others, which will join the current efforts being made by Embratel and Neovia. Signals expects that operators will carry out their own development to be able to add their own last mile.  more

Signals Telecom Consulting has published a report into the MVNO market in Latin and Southern America, which notes that in markets such as those of Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela, high levels of mobile penetration make it unlikely that a company with no presence in the market would decide to enter to compete as an established mobile operator with nationwide coverage, deploying infrastructure.  more

Peru's Mobile Telephony to Surpass US$2.7 Billion in Revenues by 2013

Peru's Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversiƒ³n) plans to auction off 821 - 824 MHz and 866 - 869 MHZ radio-electric spectrum for Lima and Callao along with 25 MHz on C-band (1.900 MHz) nationwide.
