Fractus Sues Ten Cellphone Manufacturers for Patent Infringement

Ten mobile phone vendors are being sued for allegedly infringing patents relating to internal antennas used on their handsets. Spanish antenna manufacturer, Fractus says that is has sued Samsung, LG, RIM, Pantech, Kyocera, Palm, HTC, sharp, UTStarcom, and Sanyo for infringing nine different patents.  more

Phone Main Display Shipments Up Nearly a Third Year-on-Year

DisplaySearch has released its Quarterly Mobile Phone Shipment and Forecast report, which revealed shipments of 275.3 million main displays and 60.7 million sub-displays for mobile phone handset screens. Active Matrix displays are now more than 53.7% of the total shipments, up from 41.7% a year ago. This trend is expected to continue, and by Q4'06, the Active Matrix share is forecast to be up to 60.4%. Color displays now represent 84.5% of the total.

Active Matrix Cellphone Displays Continue Market Share Growth

The display market research firm, DisplaySearch has revealed shipments of 274.6 million main displays and 58.6 million sub-displays for mobile phones with total revenues of US$3.3 billion in their Q2'06 market report. Main display shipment share by technology is shown in Table 1. Active Matrix displays are now more than 73% of the total shipments, up from 63.5% one year ago. This trend is expected to continue, and by Q3'06, the Active Matrix share is forecast to reach 78%. more
