Alcatel-Lucent Wins Chinese Contracts Worth $1.7 Billion

Alcatel-Lucent has inked two framework agreements valued US$1.7 billion in total with China Mobile and China Telecom, to provide network upgrades, integration and maintenance services in 2009. The agreements were secured through Alcatel-Lucent shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent's Chinese company.  more

Apple's iPhone Appears on China Unicom Website

In a move which is bound to fuel speculation, China Unicom's shanghai division has posted details of the Apple iPhone upon its customer website. Although no details are offered about availability, the model being displayed does seem to have had at least one modification for the local market - it supports Chinese language inputs, suggesting the specifications have come from an internal document.  more

China Unicom Selects Alcatel-Lucent to Deploy 3G Networks in 14 Provinces

Alcatel-Lucent says that it has been selected by China Unicom to deploy 3G W-CDMA networks in 14 Chinese provinces. Initial network deployments in the cities of Tianjin, Baoding, Wenzhou, Taizhou, Guiyang and Guilin are expected to be completed in May, 2009.  more

Huawei delivers China Unicom' s first 3G network in Zhengzhou

Huawei says that it has deployed China' s first WCDMA commercial network for China Unicom in Zhengzhou, Henan province, China. In China Unicom' s Phase One UMTS tender, Huawei was awarded the largest market share of over 30 percent based on number of transceiver to be deployed.  more

China Unicom Plans 3G Launch by Year-End

China Unicom expects to start a trial WCDMA network in seven cities by the end of this year - said Chang Xiaobing, chairman and CEO of the mobile network operator. Sources within the company suggest that the seven cities will be shanghai, Shenzhen, Foshan, Liuzhou, Zhengzhou, Baoding and Wuxi, with about 100 W-CDMA base stations in each city.   more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins Chinese Routing Contract

Alcatel-Lucent says that its IP routing solution has been selected by China Unicom, as the foundation of a nationwide network transformation. As a result, China Unicom will accelerate the delivery of IP-based premium voice, multimedia and VPN services. The network deployment will encompass 65 cities across 13 provinces in China and will be completed by the end of 2007. The project was secured through Alcatel shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent's company in China. more

Shanghai Unicom Completes Public EGPRS Demo in China

The shanghai branch of China Unicom (shanghai Unicom) announced yesterday a number of new mobile services at the shanghai Unicom EGPRS Data Service Press Conference held in shanghai. A range of data services based on Nokia's EGPRS solution, including Near Field Communication (NFC), push email, vCard, and WAP browsing, were demonstrated at the event. It marks China Unicom's first public EGPRS service demonstration. more
