SFR Q1 Revenues Up 31% - Sells 120,000 iPhone Handsets

France's Vivendi Group has reported a 6.9% drop in first-quarter adjusted net profits to EUR 649 million (US$883 million) due to interest costs on higher debt. Interest payments reached EUR 108 million, up from EUR 37 million a year ago.  more

France Bans Exclusive Apple iPhone Deal with Orange

The French Competition Council has ordered Apple and its local exclusive operator, Orange to stop blocking sales of the iPhone to customers who want to use rival operators. The Council said that the changes are provisional, but have to come into effect from tomorrow (Thursday) and hence will enable sfr and Bouygues Telecom to offer the iPhone in time for Christmas - providing they can get deliveries of the handset.  more
