Nokia kick-starts GPS market in Europe
Opinion piece by Tony Cripps and Michele Mackenzie, principal analysts

players, namely Qualcomm, serving large CDMA markets such as the US, where the
E911 mandate stipulates the use of location-based technologies in handsets, and
markets such as Korea and Japan where demand for location-enabled services is
higher than in other regions.

Nokia Upgrades its Navigation and Mapping Tools
Nokia has announced that the Beta version of Nokia Maps 2.0 is ready for users to download. Nokia Maps 2.0 adds Walk, a pedestrian focused navigation component to the application, while still offering Drive, a car navigation system. The pedestrian navigation guides users from A to B with visual turn-by-turn guidance. It helps the users to locate themselves by giving information about the surrounding buildings, streets and parks (including pathways through the park) and in newer handsets, like the Nokia 6210 Navigator, points the direction in which the user is walking; using the handset's built in compass for orientation. more
