March Chip Sales Rebound Slightly From February
Worldwide sales of semiconductors were $14.7 billion in March, a gain of 3.3 percent from the prior month when sales were $14.2 billion, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reported today. Sales for the first quarter of 2009 amounted to $44.0 billion, a 29.9 percent decline from the first quarter of 2008 when sales were $62.8 billion. Global Semiconductor Sales Fell by 2.8 Percent in 2008
Global sales of semiconductors were severely impacted by the world-wide economic turmoil in 2008 resulting in the first year-on-year drop in sales since 2001, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reported today. Total sales for 2008 were $248.6 billion compared to $255.6 billion in 2007, a decrease of 2.8 percent. Sales fell from $22.3 billion in December 2007 to $17.4 billion in December 2008, a decline of 22 percent. December sales declined by 16.6 percent from November 2008 when sales were $20.9 billion. more

Worldwide Chip Sales Up 5.4 Percent in First Half of 2008
Global sales of semiconductors for the first half of 2008 grew to $127.5 billion, an increase of 5.4 percent over the first half of 2007 when sales were $121 billion, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has reported. June sales of $21.6 billion were up by 8 percent from the $20 billion reported for June 2007. June sales increased by 0.5 percent from May, when sales were $21.5 billion. Second-quarter sales of $64.7 billion increased by 3 percent over first-quarter sales of $62.8 billion. more

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has released revised worldwide semiconductor sales figures for the year 2007. The data reflects upward revisions in the DRAM sales data for the period January through September 2007 made by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS), the body responsible for aggregating worldwide semiconductor sales figures. more

Cellphones Drive Semiconductor Sales Upwards
The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has reported that global sales of semiconductors reached a record US$247.7 billion in 2006, an increase of 8.9 percent over 2005. SIA noted that capacity utilization rates remained strong throughout 2006. Strategic Marketing Associates estimates that the worldwide industry spent approximately 22 percent of revenues on capital additions in 2006. SIA commented that the current ratio of capital expenditures to sales is in line with maintaining balanced supply and demand. more
