Sprint Outlines WiMAX Expansion Programme

USA network, Sprint Nextel has announced the next markets in its WiMAX network rollout. The network is being folded into the national WiMAX network being built by its joint-partner, Clearwire. Business Use of Wi-Fi Hotspots Increases by 46%

iPass has published the latest edition of its Mobile Broadband Index, which tracks the wireless use patterns of mobile workers around the world. The report shows worldwide business use of iPass Wi-Fi hotspots increased by 46% from the first half of 2007 to the first half of 2008 and that users of 2.5G and 3G mobile broadband technologies in the US increased their data traffic in the second quarter of the year by 59% between 2007 and 2008.  more

T-Mobile USA Expands 3G Coverage to 13 Cities

T-Mobile USA has announced the expansion of its 3G coverage to 13 major markets and the signing of a raft of new backhaul agreements to cope with the increased traffic across its network. T-Mobile USA confirmed that it was on track to expand its 3G service to 27 major markets in the United States by the end of 2008.  more

T-Mobile USA Accelerating 3G Rollout

It has been reported that T-Mobile USA is prepping for a near nationwide 3G launch at the beginning of October. At the moment, the company offers 3G services in the New York area only and has previously said that it expects 3G coverage to be available in the top 20 to 25 markets by the end of this year. Various reports suggest that the company will switch on some 27 markets on the 1st October.  more

T-Mobile USA Expected to Launch 3G Services Tomorrow

Multiple news reports are claiming that T-Mobile is planning to switch on its WCDMA network in New York tomorrow (May 1st) - followed by around 26 other cities by the end of this year. T-Mobile owns a large block of 1700 Mhz spectrum, but has been hampered by delays by the regulator in releasing the spectrum for the company to use.  more

Linksys Launches UMA Capable Wi-Fi Router

Cisco subsidiary, Linksys has launched a new domestic router product which supports cellular UMA services. At its core, the WRTU54G is a standard Linksys Wireless-G broadband router, but it adds two phone jacks, two internal SIM card slots for multiple phone lines and UMA client software. T-Mobile USA is using the WRTU54G for its T-Mobile @Home service, currently being tested in the seattle and Dallas markets.  more

T-Mobile Testing Wi-Fi / Cellular Hand-Over

T-Mobile USA is reported to be planning a national launch of a service which would enable customers to hop onto T-Mobile Wi-Fi hotspots when in range. Today's issue of the Wall Street Journal reports that the service, known as Hotspot at Home, has been in trial in seattle for a few months and the carrier is ready to roll it out nationwide as early as mid-June, people familiar with the matter told the newspaper. more
