Verizon Wireless Tests LTE in Boston, Seattle

Verizon Wireless says that it has completed its first successful Long Term Evolution (LTE) data calls in Boston and seattle - based on the 3GPP Release 8 standard. The successful data calls involved streaming video, file uploads and downloads, and Web browsing. Significantly, Verizon Wireless has successfully made data calls using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to enable voice transmissions over the LTE 4G network.  more

Clearwire facing lawsuit over advertising and early termination fees

A legal action has been filed against US based WiMAX operator, Clearwire seeking certification of a class action on behalf of Clearwire subscribers. The lawsuit is alleging that Clearwire is misrepresenting the quality of its WiMAX network and then imposing early-termination fees if a customer is unable to secure a reliable service.  more

Sprint Outlines WiMAX Expansion Programme

USA network, Sprint Nextel has announced the next markets in its WiMAX network rollout. The network is being folded into the national WiMAX network being built by its joint-partner, Clearwire. Sprint says that it plans to deploy WiMAX in many markets in 2009, including: Atlanta, Honolulu, Charlotte, Las Vegas, Chicago, Philadelphia, DallasFort Worth, Portland and seattle  more

Alaska Airlines Trials Satellite-Based Inflight Wireless Internet Service

Alaska Airlines says that it has launched a customer trial of its new satellite-based wireless Internet service. Onboard Alaska Airlines' specially-equipped Boeing 737-700, the service will be free at the start of the trial, which is scheduled to begin on an afternoon flight between seattle and San Jose, Calif., and will run for about 60 days. After a successful trial period, the airline will determine the schedule for rolling out the commercial availability of its wireless Internet service to its entire fleet of aircraft.  more
