Huawei Wins Indonesian Network Contract
Huawei has been chosen by AXIS, Indonesia's newest GSM and 3G operator, as a key partner in rolling out its full service national network. Under the agreement, Huawei will design, build, deploy and manage AXIS' 2G/3G network within the island of Java, Bali, Lombok, Kalimantan and Sulawesi for a period of three years to 2010. Specifically, Huawei will be responsible for close to 4,000 sites across the country, on GSM and 3G radio access, optical and microwave transmission. more

Saudi Telecom Expected to Seek US$14 Billion Debt for Overseas Aquisitions
Huawei has been awarded a contract by Saudi Telecom Company (STC) to deploy its 3G network in Saudi Arabia. According to the contract, Huawei will supply a complete core network and new generation NodeBs to help STC launch 3G services countrywide and maintain its leading position. more

Saudi Arabia to get MMS services
Nokia has signed an agreement with ALJAWAL (GSM operator of Saudi Telecom Company) for the supply of the Nokia Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) solution. Deliveries have already begun and the service is expected to be launched nationwide during first half 2005 - making it the first official MMS service in Saudi Arabia. more

Saudi network improves its customer care
Logica has won a contract from the Saudi Telecom Company (STC) to establish a customer relationship management (CRM) and multi-channel customer contact centre for STC's mobile phone business. In 2003, the Saudi Telecoms market will become deregulated, creating a more competitive landscape for its mobile operators. In order to help maintain its market position, STC will develop a comprehensive CRM strategy. The Logica-developed contact centre will be critical to STC's first phase of its overall CRM initiative. more

Several arrested in Saudi telecoms fraud
ArabNews has reported that a number of Saudi Telecom Company (STC) staff have been arrested following a SIM card fraud involving over 1,000 accounts. The paper reported that Saudi nationals who had reason to contact STC, then had their identity papers copied and used by the staff to acquire a SIM connection to the company's GSM network. These SIM's were then passed to Arab expatriate criminals who were running a discounted international calls scam. more
PrePay to come to Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia's Saudi Telecom Company (STC) has said that it plans to introduce a PrePay tariff at the end of the month. The company has been quietly trialing the service for the past couple of weeks. The company said that it expects to attract over 1 million new subscribers within 12 months for the new service, which will be sold under the Sawa brand name. The top up cards will be sold in denominations of US$27 and US$53. with calls charged at a flat rate of US$0.32 per minute. more
