Zain Saudi Arabia Q2 Revenues More than Doubled

Zain Saudi Arabia (Zain KSA) announced significantly increased revenues for the second-quarter of this year. The results exceeded expectations, with revenue up 107% to more than sar 1.45 billion (US$386 million), compared to sar 702 million (US$187 million) in Q2 2009. Operational losses decreased by 55% to sar 314 million (US$83.5 million) compared to sar 706 million (US$188 million) for the same period last year.  more

Samsung Wins Saudi WiMAX Expansion Contract

Saudi Arabia's Mobily has inked a sar 375 million (US$100 million) contract with Samsung for a WiMAX network covering 20 cities in the Kingdom through subsidiary firm, Bayanat Al Oula. Mobily brought Bayanat Al-Oula last year, and continued the expansion of the latter's WiMAX Wave1 network in the four major cities of Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Al Khobar.  more

US Government Agency Calls for More Research into Mobile Phone Health Issues

The rapid increase in the use of wireless communication devices in recent years has been accompanied by a significant amount of research into potential health effects from high exposure to radiofrequency (RF) energy emitted by these devices. MTC Gets Confirmation of Saudi Mobile Operator License

The MTC Consortium has announced that it has received official notification from the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) of the formal approval by the Council of Ministers of its sar 22.91billion (US$6.109 billion) financial bid for the third mobile telecommunications licence in Saudi Arabia. With the notification, MTC Consortium has now received a mandate to establish a public joint-stock company to hold the licence and operate a 25 year license for 3rd mobile telecommunications company in the country. more
