Nokia to Close R&D Site - Cut Handset Production at Factory
Nokia has announced plans to close the Jyväskylä site and concentrate mobile devices R&D in Finland at Tampere, Oulu, salo and the Helsinki metropolitan area. Nokia also plans to scale down salo production with staggered temporary lay-offs, aligning production with market demand while continuing operations without interruption. more

Nokia Announces Job Cuts as it Closes Offices
Nokia has announced a range of changes which are likely to result in some 450 job cuts, with around 100 of the job cuts occurring in Finland. At the same time Nokia Research Center (NRC), which is specialized in long-term research activities within Nokia, plans to sharpen its focus on fewer but stronger research areas. more

Nokia Setting Up Handset Factory in Romania
Nokia has announced that it is setting up a manufacturing facility for mobile devices in Romania. Nokia anticipates investing an estimated EUR60 (US$80) million in the Cluj plant, which will be the company's 11th mobile device production facility globally.
Nokia says that it selected Cluj as the location for the plant because of the county's availability of skilled labour, its good inbound and outbound logistics connections, its overall efficiency, and the long industrial tradition in the area.
Nokia's new facility in Cluj is located about 400 kilometers north-west of Bucharest. The construction work at Cluj will start in spring 2007 and production is expected to begin in the first half of 2008. more
Nokia has just manufactured its 100 millionth phone. For several weeks this autumn, Nokia's production has exceeded 1 million phones a week. The 100 millionth phone was a 9110 communicator, built at salo in Finland, volume deliveries of which a due in the new year. The 100,000,001 phone was a Nokia 6160 for the American market built in Fort Worth, Texas ! I don't know what 100,000,002 was though!" more
