T-Mobile UK Loses Tax Dispute Over Sales Tax on Payment Levy
T-Mobile UK - now part of Everything Everywhere - has lost a tax dispute with the UK government over the charging of a sales tax on a levy it added to monthly invoices if customers chose to pay by cash or cheque. The company charges an additional fee of £3 per month to customers who do not settle their bill by automatic Direct Debit transfer from their bank account. more

Arab cellular lines grew by 17% in the first nine months of 2009
Morocco has the highest average cost of prepaid and postpaid cellular minutes in the Arab World, according to a new report from Arab Advisors Group. Egypt offer the lowest average cellular minute costs for prepaid and postpaid. 12 of the 19 covered markets impose taxes on cellular services, these are: Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen. Jordan boasts the highest sales tax rates on cellular services in the region followed by Tunisia and Morocco. more
