Rwanda Awards 3rd Mobile License to Millicom
Millicom International Cellular says that it has won the license to operate Rwanda's third mobile phone network. Millicom will hold 87.5% of the equity in a newly created joint venture company in partnership with Marathon Corporation, an established local company with numerous business interests in Rwanda. The joint venture will pay US$60 million for the 15 year license. more

Four Companies Interested in Rwanda's 3rd Mobile License
Rwanda's government is moving closer to inviting bids for the country's third mobile network. Speaking at his regular presidential press conference last week, President Paul Kagame said that four companies have already expressed preliminary interest in the license. The four companies were named as Zain, Korea Telecom, Orascom and an unidentified Israel company. more

Rwanda Government Sells Telco to Libyan Based Investors
A Libyan company, Lap Green Networks has won the tender to buy 80% of Rwanda's rwandatel after agreeing to pay US$100 million and invest a minimum of US$87 million in the network within one year of completing the transaction. The government's Social Security Fund will retain its 20% stake. more
