Funding Secured to Develop UK Satellite for Rural Broadband Services
Satellite operator, Avanti Communications says has been awarded a project by the European Space Agency contributing EUR 250,000 in 2009 to the cost of work on a Preliminary Design Review of a new satellite system called Hercules. This system has been proposed to the UK government's Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) as part of Avanti's response to the Digital Britain consultation. more

Alcatel-Lucent Demonstrates WiMAX Rev-e Pilot Network in Andalusia
Spanish rural broadband services provider, Iberbanda as deploys its first pilot network using Alcatel-Lucent supplied WiMAX 802.16-e (Rev-e) wireless broadband technology. A specially equipped bus is being driven around Iberbanda's R&D center in Malaga testing mobile Internet access and other services such as voice over IP or video surveillance. The bus is equipped with video cameras, screens, phones and PCs. more
