Fitch Ratings has affirmed Russian mobile network operator, MegaFon's Long-term foreign currency and local currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR) at 'BB+' and Short-term foreign currency IDR at 'B'. The agency has also affirmed the National Long-term rating at 'AA(rus)' and foreign and local currency senior unsecured rating at 'BB+'. The Outlooks on the Long-term ratings are Positive. more

Russia Planning LTE License Auction Later this Year
Russia expects to tender licenses for the LTE services in the second-half of this year, Communications and Press Minister Igor Shchyogolev announced late last week. The ability to offer LTE licenses however depends on whether the big three mobile operators and rostelecom manage to draw up "a digestible scheme" for converting military frequencies, he said. more

MegaFon Sees 23 Percent Rise on 3rd Quarter Profits
Russian mobile network operator, MegaFon has announced a 21.3% rise in its third-quarter revenues, reaching RUR 57.6 billion (US$1.84 billion), while net income grew by 23.1% year-on-year, to RUR 14 billion (US$447 million). However, OIBDA margin in the quarter dropped to 46.1% as compared to 49.7% in the third quarter of 2009. more

Fitch Affirms Russia's MTS Debt Ratings with Stable Outlook
The affirmation of MTS's ratings reflects the company's strong and stable market shares in all its key mobile markets including, most importantly, Russia. Although competition in Russia is likely to intensify as Tele2 and the to-be-enlarged rostelecom have ambitions to grow their market shares, Fitch believes that MTS will be able to defend its positions and at least maintain parity in terms of coverage, technology solutions, frequency portfolio, marketing and capex spend. Control over MGTS will continue to ensure MTS's undisputed leadership in the mass fixed-line market in Moscow. more
