FMC and femtocell equipment markets poised to take off in face of downturn
Market research firm Infonetics Research has released a report on FMC and Femtocell Equipment, which forecasts that combined, sales of FMC network element equipment and femtocell equipment are expected to grow at a healthy rate through the economic downturn and really take off in 2011, reaching nearly $8 billion worldwide by 2013. more

No sign of wireless downturn in North America yet
Independent Analyst Comment - Steven Hartley, Senior Analyst at Ovum
North America was the first region to be affected by the current economic
crisis and, to date, has been the hardest hit. Although the full effects of the
downturn are yet to be felt, the wireless operatorsÃ' results in the third
quarter reflect how mobile services have become indispensable and two-year
contracts are protecting the sector in the region. Mobile telecom remains on
track to grow in the region in 2009.

FMC phones hit $7.6B in 2Q08; FMC network elements on target to grow 82% in 2008
Market research firm Infonetics Research reports that sales of dual mode cellular/WiFi phones, including dual service and UMA and IMS seamless FMC client phones, hit US $7.6 billion in 2Q08 and are expected to be up 16% for the year, indicating healthy growth for converged cellular/WiFi services in both enterprise and consumer market segments. more

The North American mobile market has not changed significantly since our last quarterly review. The ten largest companies, which account for the vast majority of subscribers in the region, have maintained their relative positioning over the quarter, as AT&T heads the table with 71.4m customers, ahead of Verizon (67.2m), Sprint Nextel (52.8m), T-Mobile (30.8m), Alltel (13.2m), rogers and Bell Mobility from Canada (7.4m and 6.3m), US Cellular (6.2m), Telus, the third Canadian company (5.7m) and MetroPCS (4.4m). In fact, the only change over the year is that Bell Mobility has edged ahead of USC by about 50k subscribers to take the seventh place on the list. more
