Rogers 1st-Quarter Revenues Up but Profits Down

Canada's Rogers Wireless has reported a rise of 5% in first-quarter revenues to CA$2.75 billion (US$2.25 billion), but a slight dip of 2% in net profits to CA$256 million (US$210 million). Wireless network revenue grew by 8% year-over-year driven by postpaid net subscriber additions of 104,000, data revenue growth accelerating by 43% to 20% of network revenue, and a further reduction of postpaid churn to 1.09%.  more

FMC and femtocell equipment markets poised to take off in face of downturn

Market research firm Infonetics Research has released a report on FMC and Femtocell Equipment, which forecasts that combined, sales of FMC network element equipment and femtocell equipment are expected to grow at a healthy rate through the economic downturn and really take off in 2011, reaching nearly $8 billion worldwide by 2013.  more

Rogers Signed up 130,000 iPhone Subscribers in Q4 '08

Canada's Rogers Wireless has reported that during the last quarter of 2008, it activated approximately 130,000 iPhone 3G devices, approximately 40% of which were with new subscribers with the remainder being with existing Rogers Wireless subscribers who upgraded to the iPhone, committed to new term contracts and in the vast majority of cases subscribed to both voice and monthly data service plans.  more

Canadian Operator Doubles Mobile Data Download Speeds

Canada's Rogers Wireless has launched a nationwide HSDPA upgrade onto its network, offering peak downloads of 7.2Mbps. The Rogers 3.5G next generation network is now available in Canada's top 25 markets from Victoria to Halifax and other main markets, with additional locations to cover 75% of the population by the end of December 2008.  more

No sign of wireless downturn in North America yet

North America was the first region to be affected by the current economic crisis and, to date, has been the hardest hit. Although the full effects of the downturn are yet to be felt, the wireless operatorsÃ' results in the third quarter reflect how mobile services have become indispensable and two-year contracts are protecting the sector in the region. Mobile telecom remains on track to grow in the region in 2009.  more

Rogers Posts 84% in 3rd Quarter Profits on iPhone Sales

Canada's Rogers Communications has reported an 84% jump in 3rd quarter profits on strong sales of Apple's iPhone handset and net subscriber growth. The company posted a net income of  CA$495 million (US$386 million) compared to CA$269 million (US$210 million) a year ago. Revenues climbed by 14% to CA$3 billion (US$2.34 billion) as the company sold around 255,000 of the 3G iPhone handset.  more

Canadian Operators Switch to WCDMA - Plan LTE Rollout
