Orange UK Signs Reseller Deal with Brightpoint

Orange UK has entered into an agreement with Brightpoint, a distributor of wireless devices and customised logistic services. This collaboration in the UK is a direct distribution agreement that will see Brightpoint's IT and PBX resellers target business customers with a range of solutions including Orange connectivity, Orange devices and SIM only deals. This agreement will allow Orange to leverage Brightpoint's device agreements with Nokia and rim as well as its exclusive agreement with HTC in the UK.  more

Smart Phones Ring in Healthy Growth in 2009 Despite Mobile Meltdown

Although the outlook for the overall mobile handset market continues to dim, smart phones remain a bright spot with global unit growth as high as 11.1 percent in 2009, iSuppli is predicting. iSuppli's optimistic forecast for global smart phone unit shipments calls for 192.3 million units in 2009, up 11.1 percent from 173.6 million in 2008. A more pessimistic outlook calls for growth of only 6 percent this year, reaching 183.9 million units.  more

Are Smartphones Immune to the Financial Crisis in Western Europe?

The market for Western European converged mobile devices (commonly referred to as smartphones) experienced a good performance in the last quarter of 2008. According to IDC's European Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors shipped 9.3 million units, 25.9% higher than the 7.4 million shipped in 4Q07. For the full year 2008, vendors shipped 31.9 million units, 36.1% higher than the 23.5 million units shipped in 2007.  more

Survey Finds: 17% of Shoppers Spent Over $100 on Mobile Apps in 2008

A survey of 235 US smartphone users who installed applications on their devices in 2008, conducted by ABI Research in November, reveals that a surprising 16.5% spent between $100 and $499. That level of spending is especially significant given the low cost of most mobile applications, ranging from as little as a dollar or two at Apple's iPhone App Store, to at most about $25.  more
