Fractus Sues Ten Cellphone Manufacturers for Patent Infringement

Ten mobile phone vendors are being sued for allegedly infringing patents relating to internal antennas used on their handsets. Spanish antenna manufacturer, Fractus says that is has sued Samsung, LG, rim, Pantech, Kyocera, Palm, HTC, Sharp, UTStarcom, and Sanyo for infringing nine different patents.  more

Patent Attorneys Say RIM Legal Bill Highlights Risk of Patent Litigation

CIPA, the professional body for the UKÃ's patent attorneys, has given its support to a judge who has unusually taken steps to control costs in patent actions. Mr Justice ArnoldÃ's action follows an earlier lambasting of a top law firm for putting in a bill for over £5 million in fees, in connection with a five-day patent trial involving Research In Motion, maker of the popular Blackberry device.  more

Motorola Sues RIM for Poaching Staff

Motorola is suing rival handset manufacturer, Research in Motion after it claimed that company has been poaching its staff. The lawsuit, filed last week says that rim lured away some 40 of its employees in Florida since the beginning of this year.  more

Research in Motion Settles Patent Dispute with Wi-LAN

Patent licensing firm, Wi-LAN has settled the pending patent litigation with Canada's Research in Motion (rim) and updated its 2008 financial guidance as a result of recent license signings. As a result of the legal settlement, rim has obtained a license to certain patents of Wi-LAN in the area of wireless technology and the litigation between the two companies will be dismissed.  more
