Wi-Fi Pushing Radio IC Market to $4 Billion in 2013

­Vendors will ship $4 billion in Wi-Fi radio chips in 2013, most of these for cellphones, notebooks, netbooks, infrastructure, home entertainment systems and wireless gaming consoles. At the same time, adoption of 802.11n MIMO with multiple transmit streams will help boost the market for Wi-Fi power amplifier modules to twice its 2008 size, despite continued pricing pressure.  more

RFMD Targets CDMA Components Market

RF Micro Devices is to re-target the CDMA components market with the introduction of multiple CDMA front end products. In calendar year 2009, rfmd plans a major refresh of its CDMA product portfolio, marking the Company's first new offerings for CDMA handsets in approximately five years.  more

Compound Growth Rate for China's Mobile TV Output - Report

China's CCID Consulting, has reported that with the drive of export and domestic demands, China's mobile phone output continues to grow in 2007, reaching 554 million sets, with a growth rate of 25.4%. The export volume wass 322 million sets, which accounts for 58.2% of all phones made in the country. Currently, China's global mobile phone manufacturing base is quite steady. Nokia, Motorola, Samsung and Sony Ericsson have transferred their capacities to China; because of this factor, the export volume of China's mobile phone increases 26.2%. Meanwhile, China's domestic mobile phone enterprises' capacity increases are evident, especially ZTE, Huawei and K-Touch.  more

RF Micro Devices to Cut 350 Jobs

RF Micro Devices has announced that it is reducing its investments in wireless systems, including cellular transceivers and GPS solutions, in order to focus on core semiconductor component opportunities, including cellular front ends and other components in rfmd's Cellular Products Group (CPG) and the expanding portfolio of semiconductor components in rfmd's Multi-Market Products Group (MPG).  more

RF Micro Devices Outsources 80 Jobs from USA to China

RF Micro Devices has announced that it will move its cellular testing service from the USA to China - in a move which affects around 80 jobs. The company says the move represents the final phase of a production test transfer to rfmd's primary production test facility located in Beijing, China. rfmd currently employs over 2,000 employees in North Carolina, USA.  more

RFMD Ships 100 Millionth WCDMA Cellular Front End

RF Micro Devices (rfmd) has announced that it has shipped its 100 millionth WCDMA cellular front end. In the June 2007 quarter, rfmd's WCDMA front end revenue significantly outpaced the rate of growth of the handset market, and the Company is booked for sequential growth in WCDMA front end revenue in the September quarter of greater than 50%. more

Qualcomm Buys Bluetooth Assets

RF Micro Devices (rfmd) has sold the majority of its Bluetooth assets to Qualcomm for US$39 million. rfmd anticipates the transaction will enable it to increase its focus on its highest growth wireless business opportunities, including cellular transceivers, cellular power amplifiers, WLAN power amplifiers, GPS components and Gallium Nitride (GaN) high power amplifiers. more
