O2 Confirms Winning Irish iPhone Exclusivity

O2 Ireland has confirmed that it will be the exclusive Irish carrier for Apple's iPhone when it makes its official debut in Ireland on March 14th. The iPhone will be sold in Ireland through O2 and Carphone Warehouse retail stores - as happens currently in the UK. iPhone will be available in an 8GB model for €399 (US$600) and a 16GB model for €499 (US$750).  more

Sibirtelecom Shutting Down NMT Network

Russia's Sibirtelecom has announced that it will shut down its analogue NMT-450 network on January 10th 2008. All subscribers are being encouraged to migrate to the company's CDMA450 network instead. The company's operating license for the analogue service is being revoked.  more

Orange UK Starts New Marketing Push

Orange UK has launched a new advertising campaign 'Good things should never end' to highlight it's unlimited offerings on pay as you go and pay monthly mobile plans. Telia Announces Swedish HSPA Rollout Plans

Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmo will be the first cities to use Telia's HSPA (Turbo-3G) in Sweden. After the initial launch of Turbo-3G, the build-out will continue and more than six million people in Sweden will have access to this new high-speed mobile broadband by summer 2008. Telia's customers are being offered free surfing with Turbo-3G during all of 2008.  more

Islamic Militants Attack Mobile Phone Retailers

At least fifteen mobile phone retail stores were blown up by terrorist attacks in Pakistan on Tuesday night in a plaza in the Inayat Kallay bazaar, and a further 25 stores elsewhere were partially damaged. No loss of life was reported by the Pakistani newspaper, Dawn. Tribal administration official Mawaz Khan Afridi told the newspaper that 14 phone shops had been destroyed in the Ittehad plaza.  more
