Indonesia Lifts Partial Ban on Blackberry Phone Imports

­The Indonesian government has lifted a ban on imports of new variants of Research in Motion's BlackBerry phones after the company opened a customer service and repair center in the country. The government imposed the ban in June, although it only applied to new models released by the company that had not been previously approved for sale in the country.  more

Etisalat Denies BlackBerry Software Upgrade was Spyware

UAE operator, Etisalat has denied that a recent software patch it sent to its customer's BlackBerry handsets was spyware designed to allow it to monitor communications. Abdulla Hashim, vice president of enterprise solutions for Etisalat insisted in an interview that the patch was as claimed, designed to improve handover performance between GSM and 3G networks.  more

Indonesia Rescinds Ban on Imports of New BlackBerry Phones

Indonesia's government is to relax its ban in the imports of new Blackberry models after deputations from the manufacturer and the Canadian Embassy. The planned ban on new variants of BlackBerry handsets was imposed in order to pressure Research in Motion to open a local service and repair facility. Indonesia Imposes Ban on New BlackBerry Phones

Indonesia has imposed a temporary ban on issuing permits for new BlackBerry phones to be imported into the country until the company opens a local office with after-sales services, an official told the Jakarta Globe newspaper. The Communication and Information Technology Ministry has informed cellphone operators and importers of the decision, ministry spokesman Gatot S Dewabroto said.  more
