Sybase 365 Sued for Infringing Two Messaging Patents

TeleCommunication Systems (TCS) says that it has filed a lawsuit against Sybase 365 over claimed infringements of two patents. One lawsuit alleges infringement of United States Patents Nos. 6,891,811 and 7,355,990 issued in 2005 and 2008, respectively, on technology for permitting two-way communication of short messages between a Short Message Service Center (SMSC) or wireless device and an internet (or HTTP) device or Universal Resource Locator (URL).  more

Ericsson Outbids Nokia Siemens Networks for Nortel Assets

Erics­son has snatched a deal from under the noses of Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) after it won the bidding to buy Nortel Networks carrier assets. Last month, NSN agreed to buy parts of Nortel's Carrier Networks division relating to CDMA and LTE technology in North America for a payment of US$650 million. However the deal allowed counter bids, and Ericsson has offered US$1.13 billion, significantly outbidding NSN.  more

Qualcomm Slips into Second-Quarter Loss on Broadcom Settlement

Now that the Broadcom patent issue has been finalised, Qualcomm has published its delayed quarterly financial results, which recorded a loss due to that Broadcom settlement. Qualcomm reported second quarter net loss of US$289 million, compared to profit of US$766 million a year ago. Revenues dropped to US$2.46 billion, compared to US$2.61 billion in the prior year and US$2.52 billion in the prior quarter.  more

Qualcomm and Wingtech Sign 3G CDMA License Agreement

Qualcomm and China's Wingtech Communication, a mobile terminals company, announced that they have entered into a subscriber unit and module/modem card (including PCB assemblies) patent license agreement. Under the terms of the royalty bearing agreement, Qualcomm has granted Wingtech a worldwide patent license to develop, manufacture and sell subscriber units, modules and modem cards (including PCB assemblies) implementing the CDMA2000 standard.  more

Huawei Expects to Chalk up Contract Sales of US$11B in 2006

Huawei has said that it expects full-year contract sales to reach US$11 billion by the end of 2006. As at 1H2006, Huawei recorded contract sales of US$5.2 billion, an increase of 29% compared to the same period last year. The value of contract sales from international markets reached US$3.4 billion, an increase of 36% over the same period in 2005. more
