Record result in Q4 for India - but Q1 09 looks set to beat it
India is the world's second largest mobile market behind China and it has seen extraordinary levels of growth in recent quarters. The first three quarters of 2008 all saw net additions in excess of 25m, and Q4 08 went one better with a gain of 31.58m, an all-time Indian and world record. The number of connections in India stood at 346.77m at the end of 2008 with annual growth of 48.5%, compared to 60.8% in 2007. more

Vodafone India CEO to Retire at the End of March
Vodafone has announced that the CEO of its Indian subsidiary, Asim Ghosh is to retire in March - and named Marten Pieters as his replacement. Ghosh will however continue as a non-executive member on the board of Vodafone Essar. more

India's RCom - Higher than average usage fails to produce premium ARPU
reliance Communications has recorded a record quarter, in terms of new connections, adding 5.3m to its base to take the total to 56.0m. Proportionately, it grew by 10.35% over the quarter and 54.3% over the year. These are impressive numbers, but they are also little better than average - the Indian market as a whole grew by 10.03% and 51.2% respectively, while the market leader, Bharti, managed 11.7% and 58.5%. more

India Added a Record 7.7 Million GSM Subcribers in October
India's GSM networks added a record breaking 7.7 million net customers in October - reports the Cellular Operators' Association of India (COAI). The total GSM base now stands at 241.4 million as at the end of last month. more

The Indian set a new world record for organic monthly net additions in September with an uplift of 9.99m, beating its own previous best of 9.90m. This is equivalent to 3.9 new connections every second in September. The total market reached 310.62m with a penetration rate of 27.5%, which should mean that there is plenty of potential for further growth. more

Huge Fuel Cell Order Placed by Indian Network Infrastructure Vendor
US based fuel-cell manufacturer, IdaTech has signed a supply agreement for up to 30,000 5kW hydrogen fuel cell systems to be delivered mainly to Indian telecoms operators. The supply agreement is with Acme Group, a provider of passive infrastructure solutions to wireless telecom players both in India as well as overseas. more

Who are the Fastest Growing Operators in Asia-Pacific?
The ten fastest growing companies in the Asia Pacific region added a total of just over 65m new customers between them, or two thirds of the regional total and more than one third of the global total. This total compares with just 52m for the prior quarter.
