India's Reliance Seeks 100 Million Subscribers by Year-End

India's reliance Communications has set itself a target of breaking the 100 million subscriber mark before the end of this year - requiring an additional 25 million new customers to sign up to its network. The firm reported a surge in subscriptions following the launch of its GSM network, which overlays its existing CDMA service.  more

Nigeria - Total Market Grows to 63m as Penetration Hits 45%

The Nigerian mobile market's bullish growth showed no signs of abating in Q4 08. Quarterly net additions of 7.15m took the total number of customers over 60m, with a year-end figure of 62.99m, while the annual gain stood at 22.59m. By comparison, Q4 07 saw an increase of 3.39m and the 2007 boost was 11.92m. Meanwhile, the latest figures from Nigerian regulator the NCC show that at the end of January the total had risen to 64.16m.  more

Reliance Communications Debt Ratings Affirmed at LAAA

Indian debt ratings agency, ICRA has assigned a long-term rating of LAAA each to the Rs. 30 billion Non-Convertible Debenture (NCD) Programme and the Rs. 100 billion proposed Long-Term Fund-Based Facilities of reliance Communications (RCOM). Further, ICRA has reaffirmed the LAAA rating assigned earlier to the Rs. 201.56 billion Long-Term Fund Based/Non-Fund Based Limits of RCOM.  more

Nigeria's Bullish Growth Continues in Fourth Quarter

Nigeria's telecoms regulator the NCC has reported customer numbers for the fourth quarter of 2008. The total customer base reached 62.99m at the end of the year having increased by 55.9% annually. On a quarterly basis, net additions stood at 7.15m, only just short of the national and continental record of 7.38m, set in Q2 08.  more

RCom adds a record 5 million New subscribers in January 2009

India's reliance Communications, a dual CDMA and GSM operator, says that it signed up a record 5 million new wireless subscribers on its network during January 2009. The entry of reliance Mobile in the GSM segment has once again led to a significant expansion of the market, with the company seeing a significant 285% rise in new subscriber additions, within the first month of its nationwide GSM rollout.  more

India's RCom Launching its Nationwide GSM Network

India's reliance Communications has announced that it will, over the next few days, launch a nationwide GSM/EDGE network. The launch covering 1 billion people in 24,000 towns and 600,000 villages is by far the widest one-time network launch.  more

The CDMA Development Group (CDG) today announced that the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region once again leads the global CDMA ecosystem in terms of subscribers, revenue and service creation. India's RCom - Higher than average usage fails to produce premium ARPU

reliance Communications has recorded a record quarter, in terms of new connections, adding 5.3m to its base to take the total to 56.0m. Proportionately, it grew by 10.35% over the quarter and 54.3% over the year. These are impressive numbers, but they are also little better than average - the Indian market as a whole grew by 10.03% and 51.2% respectively, while the market leader, Bharti, managed 11.7% and 58.5%.  more

India Added a Record 7.7 Million GSM Subcribers in October

India's GSM networks added a record breaking 7.7 million net customers in October - reports the Cellular Operators' Association of India (COAI). The total GSM base now stands at 241.4 million as at the end of last month.  more
