RealNetworks Loses Arbitration with VeriSign Over SMS Alliance
realnetworks has announced that it has lost a legal action with VeriSign over an alliance between the two companies, and that contractual limitations on the financial penalties had been overturned. The alliance referred to VeriSign Metcalf Intercarrier SMS, an outsourced inter-carrier messaging solution for wireless carriers. Together with realnetworks, it powers inter-carrier mobile messaging for eight of the top 10 wireless carriers in North America and other major operators throughout the world. more

Vodafone Extends Music Services with RealNetworks
Vodafone and realnetworks have announced a multi-year global partnership today to support Vodafone's music services across Europe. The agreement will make realnetworks' mobile music services, including Internet radio-style streaming music and the ability to purchase and download full songs, available to Vodafone customers in Europe. These services are available today from Vodafone in Germany, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Romania and the UK. The Internet radio-style streaming music service is available in France. more

The International Multimedia Telecommunications Consortium's Packet-switched Streaming Services Activity Group (PSS-AG) staged a live face-to-face interoperability test event in June, kicking off its latest cycle of interoperability testing of 3GPP and 3GPP2 mobile phone streaming standards. The PSS-AG is focused on testing the interoperability of features from the latest 3G multimedia streaming specifications, including streaming bit-rate adaptation, multi-track signaling, and progressive download of the latest codecs including H.264 Video and Enhanced aacPlus Audio. more
