UK Regulator Consults on Further Radio Spectrum Sales
UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom has set out its proposals for how it will release the radio spectrum that will be freed up as a result of the switchover to digital television. The spectrum, known as the digital dividend, in the UHF band, is currently used for the delivery of TV channels using analogue technology. Signals transmitted in these bands can travel over large distances and carry a large amount of information. more

UK Regulator Consults on Allowing Mobile Phones on Planes
The UK's telecoms regulator, Ofcom has published proposals to permit the use of mobile phones on planes while in flight. The regulator notes that the issues of airline safety belong to the airline regulators, and that it is simply proposing the telecoms access side of the regulations. Ofcom says that it has been working with other Member States of the EU to create such a mutual regime, and expects this to be enshrined in a binding Decision of the Radio Spectrum Committee ( RSC ) and an advisory Recommendation of the Communications Committee (COCOM) - by the end of 2007 or early 2008. more

LONDON -(Dow Jones)- Ofcom said Thursday that it published proposals for the release of radio spectrum which could be used for a range of new broadband, wireless communications and broadcast services by both businesses and consumers. Ofcom intends to auction licences for frequencies at 10 GHz, 28 GHz and 32 GHz on a technology and application-neutral basis in the latter half of 2007. more
