Denmark Planning Auction of LTE/WiMAX Radio Spectrum
Denmark is to hold a consultation on auctioning off radio spectrum in the 2.5ghz bands. The Ministry for Science, Technology and Innovation (National IT and Telecom Agency) said that 205MHz of spectrum will be auctioned in total: 190MHz in the 2.5GHz band (2500-2690MHz) and 15MHz in the 2010MHz band (2010-2025MHz). more

472 Million to receive Mobile TV by 2013
The number of people receiving Mobile TV will reach 472 million by 2013 according to an analysis by Cantab Wireless. Their report argues that subscriber growth is anticipated to be strongest in Asia at first, especially in Korea and Japan. From 2010 onwards, Europe and the USA are expected to catch up. Especially in Europe the shortage of radio spectrum before the analogue TV networks shutdown may delay the launch of mobile TV networks in some countries, most importantly in the UK. more
Zain in Talks with Palestinian Telecoms Operator
Kuwait based Zain has said that it is in talks to partner with the monopoly telecoms operator in the Palestinian Territories, PalTel, which also operates a mobile network under the Jawwal brand name. more

France to Award Additional 3G Radio Spectrum

Digital dividend - France is paving the way for harmonised decisions across Europe
The French Government this week announced its decision to share 'digital-dividendÃ' spectrum between both electronic communications and audiovisual services, following the recommendation of the Digital Dividend Parliamentary Commission published in July 2008. Analysts from Analysys Mason believes that this decision represents an important contribution to achieving a critical mass of users of mobile broadband services. If similar actions are undertaken by other Member States, it will also be a key step in reaching fully harmonised decisions across the EU. more

Industry Initiative to Trial Mobile Data Speeds in Excess of 100 Mbps
A group of telecom technology manufacturers and network operators comprised of Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, France Telecom/Orange, Nokia, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nortel, T-Mobile, and Vodafone have announced a joint initiative aimed at driving forward the realisation of the next-generation of high performance mobile broadband networks based on 3GPP Release 8 "Long Term Evolution / System Architecture Evolution" (LTE/SAE) specifications.
In line with 3GPP requirements, this next-generation technology aims to provide a mobile broadband service that outperforms both 3GPP Release 6 HSPA, as well as current fixed line DSL data rates. more
