China to Allocate Additional Spectrum to 3G Networks
It has been reported that China is planning to allocate additional radio spectrum to the homegrown 3G service, by taking it from the low-cost XiaoLingTong local area wireless service. Xie Feipo, from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that the ministry had asked fixed-line operators to return the PHS radio spectrum so it could be reassigned to the TD-SCDMA network. more

Indian Regulator Wants Speedy Allocation of 3G Licenses
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has published a paper calling for the speedy allocation of radio spectrum for 3G and WiMAX services in the country. The TRAI reports that the Indian Government announced Broadband Policy in 2004 and made certain projections for broadband subscribers' growth. It was expected that broadband growth rate would be stepped up. However, it is observed that the growth of broadband in the country is slow and below expected level. more

Indian Radio Spectrum Deal with Defence Ministry Expected by Nov.
India's Communications Ministry says that it expects its negotiations with the Defence Ministry over plans to release radio spectrum in the cellular bands should be concluded by the end of November this year. This will release much needed capacity for the cellular operators who are already facing congestion in some parts of the country. more
